On September 2, 1951, Afghanistan issued two stamps commemorating “Pashtunistan Day”. Pashtunistan is an ethnic area which has been segregated through the Durant border line established in 1893 between British-India (later Pakistan) and Afghanistan. Afghanistan does not accept this border line. The stamps have stirred protest in Pakistan and were therefore withdrawn.
The center image of the stamp with the mountain summits represents the logo of the “Pashtunistan Movement”. The Arabic on the left translates to “Pashtunistan Day Memorial”. There is also the year 1330 of the Hijri calendar imprinted which is identical with 1951 of the Gregorian calendar.
