South African Bible Society God Jewisg Orhtodox Protest

On November 19, 1987, South Africa issued three stamps to commemorate the South African Bible Society, which was founded in 1820. A fourth stamp, which had been prepared, was not issued because of protests from Jewish Orthodox circles. The stamp had the name "God" imprinted in the Hebrew text, this, according to the protests, in a non-religious context. Since the stamps were already available at the post offices, the actually unissued stamp was also sporadically sold.
