On April 14, 1998, Canada issued a stamp booklet with 18 self-adhesive 45 Cent face value stamps (featuring a Maple leaf). The booklets were also offered through machines in 22 branches of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Ottawa in the course of a field trial. The intention was to offer customers a 24/7 service. The booklet was charged with an additional 30 Cents when purchased through the machines.
As of December 28, 1998, the booklets were offered with 46 Cent face value stamps due to a change in postage. The trial, planned for a year, was terminated end of April 1999. The customers had apparently not accepted the new channel readily. The 45 Cent face value stamp was also issued on September 30, 1998, in coils of 100, but were not available through the trial machines. This stamp is distinguished from the booklet stamp through the missing imprint “POSTAGE POSTES”.
