First Session Of The National Assembly

On March 15,1939, Carpatho-Ukraine declared itself independent from Czechoslovakia. Actually, this was planned for March 2, 1939. A corresponding stamp was prepared, on which the date 2.III.1939 was already imprinted for the first meeting of the National Assembly, but then it was issued only on March 15, 1939. Likewise, on the stamp was imprinted "Карпатська Україна" (Carpatho-Ukraine).

Already on March 16, 1939, due to the occupation by the Hungarian army, the stamp was withdrawn from sale and declared invalid. 300000 of the 900000 stamps printed went to the post office counters in Khust and Prague. The cliché of the stamp was almost identical to a stamp issued in Czechoslovakia on October 28, 1928 and showed the wooden Church of the Ascension in Yasinia.
