On the occasion of the visit of Pope John Paul II to Chile in April 1987, a corresponding set of stamps was issued on March 27, 1987. The 115 pesos stamp was re-issued on August 18, 1987. Obviously there was dissatisfaction with the design of the original stamp after issue. The second stamp had an aura around the head of the Virgin statue and the physiognomy of the Pope's face was more accentuated and with an implied smile.
