On July 6, 1975, the Comoros declared their independence from France unilaterally.  On July 21, 1975, two stamps were issued commemorating domestic dances. On the stamps however the insignia “RF” for “Republique Française” and “ARCHIPEL DES COMORES” were still imprinted, representative for the French colony. The stamps were thus withdrawn after a few days. Parts of the stamps were later in the year re-issued with the overprint “ETAT COMORIEN” for “State of the Comoros” and the old insignia stroke through as part of the overprint.
