1000 Years Jewish Settlement

On May 27, 1967 was issued by the CSSR a set of stamps on the occasion of the 1000-year anniversary of Jewish settlement in Bohemia. Jewish artefacts and important locations were depicted. In fact, the original first issue date was planned for December 28, 1966, but was postponed for "technical" reasons. What the technical reasons were is not known. The actual date of issue was very close to the Six-Day War between Israel and Arab states from June 5, 1967 to June 10, 1967. Following the USSR, the CSSR also sided with the Arab states. In the course of this, the issue was withdrawn from sale in June and also declared invalid as franking.

The stamps were then reissued to again commemorate the 1000th anniversary celebration for 1968. However, in September 1967, this was also cancelled, obviously related to the new political circumstances in the Middle East conflict.
