On April 10, 1980, Germany issued a stamp commemorating 100 years of the “German Association for Public and Private Welfare”. As usual for a new stamp issue a first day meter mark was put in use. There are two variations of this postmark, one with the correct logo “dv” and another one with the erroneous mirror image “vb”.
It is unclear whether multiple meter marks were used, one of which just had the wrong logo, or whether initially the wrong meter mark was used and when the mistake was noticed it was withdrawn and replaced by a corrected meter mark. Based on the comparison of stamped first day sheets with either of the meter marks, the second explanation is more likely.
