A commemorative stamp was issued on October 1, 2002, to mark the 100th birthday of the lawyer and resistance fighter in the Third Reich, Hans von Dohnanyi
(1902-1945). A test print of a stamp cliché was made in advance, but was rejected. The reason was the colour background of Dohnanyi's facial profile on the stamp, which was considered too
reddish. The issued cliché then had a pale greyish background. In addition, the year ‘2002’ was moved from the top right of the proof to the bottom right of the final cliché.
However, 320 small sheets (3200 stamps) of the proof were inadvertently delivered to the post offices alongside the authorised stamp and thus went on sale.
