The German post issued a stamp in 1997 commemorating the 200th Birthday of poet Heinrich Heine. The respective sheetlet had a rune in the upper left and the lower right corner imprinted. Press releases linked these runes to the fact that in Nazi-Germany runes were very popular due to the worship of Germanic culture. The sheetlets were thus withdrawn and replaced by a second issue without runes.
