Following an announcement at short notice, German Post issued the first stamps in a new stamp category entitled "Special edition" on July 13, 2024. Stamps in this category are not subject to the official commemorative stamp program agreed with the Federal Ministry of Finance. Therefore, the stamps do not bear the inscription "Deutschland" (Germany) but "Deutsche Post" (German Post). This new form of stamp is due to a license agreement between the Federal Ministry of Finance and Deutsche Post. Deutsche Post can determine the motifs of the stamps itself. The only restriction is that the same rules apply to the depiction of living persons as for the official stamps.

The first issue is a miniature sheet with four stamps to mark the 50th stage anniversary of pop singer Roland Kaiser. The second special edition with the theme #deliveredwithpride was issued on July 19 and the third special edition with featuring the heavy metal festival Wacken Open Air (WOA) on July 26. The postage rates of the stamps were valid postal rates for the transportation of letters and postcards.

All stamps were issued as self-adhesive. Roland Kaiser was depicted contrary to the provision on living persons, but in the miniature sheet outside the stamps.
