On March 6, 1997, Ghana issued stamps commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Ghana’s independence. One of them featured the then President of Ghana J.J. Rawlings. He decided that he did not want to be portrayed on stamps of Ghana. The stamp was therefore withdrawn on April 22, 1997.
