India planned to issue a stamp commemorating Beant Singh, Chief Minister of federal state Punjab from 1992 to 1995. Singh was essential for pacification of Punjab after years of terrorist attacks. He was killed in a car bombing in 1995. The planned issue of the stamp was protested against in Punjab. The stamp was therefore only issued a month later on December 17, 2013.
