India issued a stamp on May 29, 1948, on the occasion of the first flight of the newly established Air India in the course of independence. The flight took place on June 8, 1948. The stamp could only be used on this day and for this flight from Bombay to London. The Indian Post Office used a special postmark for this purpose, used in Bombay. Decorative envelopes were also issued free of charge.
