Horace

Quintus Horatius Flaccus Horace oratius

On July 1, 1936, Italy issued a set of stamps commemorating the 2000th birthday of the Roman poet Quintus Horatius Flaccus (65 BC - 8 BC) also known as Horace. The stamp at 50 centisimi depicted a commemorative medal with the poet's profile and the saying "Non omnis moriar" (Not entirely will I perish). However, the medal was also imprinted with "ORATIUS" instead of "HORATIUS". The stamp was withdrawn for this reason around April 14, 1937 (see letter).
