For the U.S. presidential election on Nov 7, 2000, Liberia issued both stamps and souvenir sheets for the previous U.S. presidents, on Oct. 2, 2000. Likewise, for the upcoming election, both stamps and souvenir sheet were printed for both candidates (Al Gore jr. and George W. Bush). Initially, Bush was proclaimed the winner of the election and therefore Liberia issued the corresponding stamp/sheetlet. But then there were doubts about the result and Liberia also issued the Gore stamp/sheetlet before then withdrawing both from sale.
Only after recounting in Florida and the result finally decided by the Supreme Court, was Bush the 43rd U.S. President in December. On the stamp, the term of office is given as 2001-2004, which is formally incorrect, since it already began at the end of 2000.
