On July 24, 1939, Norway issued commemorative stamps for the Queen Maud aid fund for children. The stamps featured a portrait of the Queen. They were withdrawn in the wake of the German Occupation on April 30, 1940 (First period of stamp validity). The reason was due to the political significance of the Queen. The stamps were valid again as of September 1, 1981 (Second period of validity).
