On November 16, 1971, the Soviet Union issued a stamp dedicated to William Z. Foster (1881-1961), the former Secretary General of the Communist Party of the USA (1945-1957). On the stamp, however, the year of death was incorrectly indicated as 1964. The stamp was then withdrawn from sale after a few days and replaced by a corrected edition on December 8, 1971. The latter was printed with 2.5 million copies.
